The first settlement on the promontory of Scopello dates back to ancient times, and also later in Roman and Islamic times. During the Norman period it was a royal property. In the thirties of the Thirteenth century, Emperor Frederich II of Swabia granted the land of Scopello to the Piedmontese Oddone of Camerana, and to the Lombard knights who arrived with him in Sicily. In 1237 Oddone of Camerana and his Lombardy knights moved to Corleone, and Emperor Frederich II gave Scopello as a feud to the town of Monte San Giuliano (today known as Erice).
